Serious Depuy Side Effects Reported

The manufacturer of ASR hip replacements, DePuy is one of several companies that have a recall on their hip replacement prosthetics becasue of dangeious Hip Replacements complications .  Hip replacement systems have been around for a number of years and in general, hip replacement has had great success especially with the newer technologies and surgical procedures.  More recently there have been reports of patients experiencing long-term severe pain and other side effects that require a second hip replacement.  In regards to this, a DePuy Hip Recall has been issued by this manufacturer due to a higher than expected failure rate.  DePuy Hip Side effects include infection, inflammation due to an immune response, fracture and severe pain.  A second hip replacement surgery is known as a revision surgery and increases the potential for further DePuy Hip Side effects.

In general, hip implant devices have been known to last for up to fifteen years or more, however DePuy devices have been reported to have serious complications  within five years requiring patients to get a second implant.  DePuy has issued a DePuy Hip Recall due to a high failure rateof these hip replacement complications .  The DePuy Hip Recall is for the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing system and the ASR XL Acetabular system.

DePuy Hip Side effects that have been reported by patients and physicians include long-term pain, continued inflammation and difficulty walking well after surgery.  Some of these symptoms might indicate that the implant has become loose, fracturing of bone or a dislocated device.  Metal debris has also been reported within the ball and socket unit due to friction between these two parts.  This metal debris has been reported to generate inflammation around the joint.  Some patients have experienced bone necrosis (death) and nerve damage in the surrounding area.

Depuy Hip Recall Announced

In order to properly respond to this DePuy Hip Recall, you will need to contact your surgeon or hospital to determine what hip replacement system you received.  The manufacturer, DePuy doesn’t keep records on patients who have had hip replacement.  It is a good idea to get a hard copy of your implant information for future use.  Also note that the ASR Hip Resurfacing system and the ASR XL Acetabular system were placed on the market in July 2003.  If you had an implant before July 2003, then your implant is not subject to a DePuy Hip Recall.  If your implant was done after July 2003, make sure you contact your surgeon and make an appointment to see if you are experiencing any DePuy Hip side effects.  This DePuy Hip Recall means that you need to be observed on a regularly basis to make sure your prosthetic is performing the way it is meant to.  You need to visit your doctor for up to five years whether you experienced DePuy Hip Side effects or not.  Your doctor will talk to you about an appropriate schedule for follow up visits.

If you have experienced continued pain, inflammation, difficulty walking or any other DePuy Hip Side effects, which may be due to these Hip replacement complications,  you may be entitled to financial compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages and medical costs. You may want to contact a DePuy hip replacement attorney to inquire about a DePuy Hip Recall lawsuit.  Make sure you bring your documentation from your surgeon or hospital that identifies the implant you received.  If you have had a second surgery make sure you save the old prosthetic as evidence for your lawsuit.
