You need an Experienced Fosamax Lawyer

Fosamax alters the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in the body.  It works by slowing down bone loss and increasing bone mass.  This is believed to prevent bone fractures in those who at risk.  Never the less, there have been a number of reports indicating a number of side effects associated with Fosamax.  If you had Fosamax complications while on Fosamax therapy you might want to contact a Fosamax Lawyer to inquire about a Fosamax Lawsuit

This osteoporotic drug is used in both women and men to treat or prevent bone loss that is caused by taking steroids or menopause.  Fosamax is also used to treat Paget’s disease which is an abnormal bone formation due to genetic complications.  Fosamax may also be used to treat other medical conditions not listed in the medicine guide.

There are some important things you need to know before you take Fosamax.  Don’t take this osteoporotic drug if you can’t stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes as Fosamax has been reported to cause serious stomach and esophagus irritations and ulcerations.  If you have developed stomach or esophagus ulcerations you might want to consult with a Fosamax Lawyer to see if you have grounds for a Fosamax Lawsuit.  Make sure you take Fosamax first thing in the morning at least 30 minutes before you eat anything with a large glass of water.  Do not take with mineral water, coffee, tea or juice.  Do not take other medications or supplements such as vitamins or antacids at this time.  Generally, if Fosamax is taken properly there should be no problem.

Dangerous Fosamax Side Effects

Fosamax has a number of side effects including Fosamax femur fractures, osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), gastrointestinal complications such as ulcerations of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.  If you have experienced any of the side effects while on Fosamax therapy you may want to consult a Fosamax Lawyer about a Fosamax lawsuit.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) occurs in some individuals which has symptoms of jaw pain, jaw inflammation, numbness, loose teeth and gum infections.  You are much more likely to develop ONJ if you have cancer or have been treated with chemotherapy, radiation or steroids or have dental surgery.  If you need to have any kind of dental work done while taking Fosamax therapy, you should consult with your dentist ahead of time as you may need to stop taking Fosamax for a short period of time.

Let your healthcare provider know if you have any problems swallowing, a vitamin D deficiency, low blood calcium, kidney dysfunction or ulcers of the stomach or esophagus.  You may not be able to take Fosamax.

Fosamax is listed by the FDA as a pregnancy category C.  So, it is not known whether it will harm your unborn fetus.  Let your physician know if you are pregnant, will become pregnant or are breast feeding.

FDA  investigating Fosamax femur fracture link

The FDA is currently investigating a possible connection between Fosamax and femur fractures.  Even though Fosamax is intended to treat osteoporosis by strengthening bone there have been cases that were reported of patients developing unusual Fosamax femur fractures.  It has been suggested that long-term use of Fosamax (5 years or greater) can lead to excess calcium deposits leading to what is called a frozen bone syndrome where the bones become too dense and hence brittle allowing for them to fracture more easily and in particular the femur.  The FDA is aware of this Fosamax side effect and is investigating this possible connection.  The FDA has placed a Warning label on Fosamax medicine guides about the potential for a femur fracture to make sure healthcare providers and consumers are aware.  The Warning label also includes information about ONJ, bone, joint and muscles pain as well as gastrointestinal complications.  If you have experienced a Fosamax femur fracture while on Fosamax therapy you may want to talk with a Fosamax Lawyer to see if you have grounds for a Fosamax Lawsuit.
